Afficher toutes les langues | ** I must say that I'm quite disappointed with this album, and I was expecting something much better. I usually enjoy this reflective type of music, but I found myself being bored and uninterested about the rapping (as would be shown through my reviews of each of the singles) to give it anything higher than a 2* (I was tempted to give it a 3*).

The standouts were "Hold On, We're Going Home" and "From Time". These were great enough, and had we had more of these songs, this could have been a great album.

But, being a "rapper" you have to have these songs about being a thug, making money and to do so while swearing as much as humanly possible. "Worst Behaviour" exemplified this, and it was quite difficult to listen to.

I still feel Drake has the potential to create a really good album. There were elements in some of the songs that reminded me of one of my favourite albums of all time (Kanye West's 808's and Heartbreak), but then Drake manages to spoil it with a few expletives and ruins the vibe he has going for him. If he can avoid that in the future, I think we have a few good albums ahead of him.

Otherwise, I was overwhelmingly bored by the album. Rap enthusiasts may love some of the stuff he's singing/rapping about, but it wasn't for me. I just can't help but feel that listening through the whole album was just a waste of time. Sorry.

2.5*. Dernière édition: 03.10.2013 06:16 |

| **** This rating will likely go up after more listens when I own it, but this is a very good follow up to his near-masterpiece 'Take Care'. While I was a bit worried that Drake would run out of ideas in his core style, he's made a record that's affirmed and solidified his strengths without feeling like a rehash. The beats are terrific as usual with a rich blend of driving hip-hop rythm and atmospheric keyboards and pianos that are perfect for Drake to rap or sing over. Lyrically Drake's still mining his ego/doubt boast/confessional mix effectively, and while annoying people may complain about the caustic lines, there's already a feeling of layers in his words that will hopefully unravel more complex emotions over time much like 'Take Care' did. Thankfully 'Started From The Bottom' has proved to be a red herring as well, it's easily the worst track here.

Interestingly this has quite a strong lack of major names making guest appearences, apart from Jay Z who's far from top form on the last track, which in a sense is evidence of the increasing charisma of his persona, being able to pull it off for a full-length. So to conclude this is most certainly a refinement of his current style whose value will probably depend on how high one values Drake already, here's hoping the future will provide more great records from this guy. |
| *** good album ... even tho im a lil bit disappointed. I expected more rapping on it. |
| *** I wish this album had less of the I'm so cool rap and more of the deep R&B that I like him for. Or at least had more emo rap like we got on Take Care. A lot of the songs on here I really didn't enjoy, so yeah, definitely not my fave from him. Take Care and Thank Me Later are better imo. |
| ***** Möglicherweise drakes bestes werk. Mit tuscan leather, pound cake, started from the bottom, too much, worst behavior oder allen voran hold on were going home sind zumindest jede menge argumente vorhanden. |
