***** INXS rarely recorded cover versions, but they recorded this song from 1960s Australian Group called The Loved Ones at least three times. The song is lyrically reminiscent of Roy Orbison's "Oh, Pretty Woman" where the protagonist adores a gorgeous femme fatale.
Here the loved one is walking away but is due to return. Michael Hutchence has a good stab at his version but he's too cool to go all out and can't match Gerry Humphreys' heartache/lust which is far more convincing/raw.
*** 1981: I feel obliged to give this 3 stars as it is so recognisable as an Australian classic, and INXS' remake doesn't take anything any from that, but the truth is, against the bulk of INXS' material, this is a tad boring. The original single gave INXS their first Top 20 hit, but didn't appear on an album until their own remake on "Kick". 1987: I always wonder why they chose this to re-record, as the differences between the two are subtle, to say the least. I wasn't the biggest fan of the 1981 release, holding it high only as an early INXS track. It was a hard sell to impress me again, and unfortunately this didn't. Weakest track on the "Kick" album.
